What does toner do?

Skin toners remove dirt and makeup while maintaining the pH balance of skin. Specialized toners provide benefits to specific skin types, such as moisturizing dry skin, brightening dull skin or creating a layer of protection against environmental toxins.

Toners must be matched to skin type for the best results. Some alcohol-based toners remove oil and help prevent pimples in people with oily skin, but harsh, drying toners are not helpful for people with dry skin. Other toners may help shrink pores, minimize signs of aging, remove redness and prevent ingrown hairs. Though a toner can complement a daily skin regimen, toners are not a substitute for sunscreen, cleansers or moisturizers.
