When was the Belfast Telegraph started?

The Belfast Telegraph first appeared on September 1, 1870 as the Belfast Evening Telegraph. It was founded by William and George Baird. The name was changed to the Belfast Telegraph in 1918.

The Belfast Telegraph is the best-selling newspaper in Northern Ireland as of 2015. It has dominated the media landscape in the country for the last 145 years. In 2012, the paper switched to a morning-only edition as part of a strategy to generate more readers. The paper embraced the Internet by creating a website, and Belfast Telegraph readers have access to mobile news services on their tablets and smartphones.
