Bentyl is an oral medication that is used to treat intestinal issues, including irritable bowel syndrome. Bentyl works to calm the stomach muscles, slow the movements of the gut and decrease stomach cramping, says WebMD.
Bentyl is usually taken before each meal and at bedtime. There are several side effects of Bentyl, including abdominal bloating, blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation and nausea. Per WebMD, this medication should not be given to infants six months or younger due to the possibility of severe side effects. Bentyl is commonly referred to as dicyclomine and is recognized as an antispasmodic drug.
