How big are polar bears?

Polar bears can weigh an average of 900 to 1,600 pounds and can grow to be between 7.25 to 8 feet in length. Male polar bears are usually larger than their female counterparts.

Polar bears are the largest of all carnivorous land animals, though they are fairly close in size to the Kodiak brown bears of Alaska. The polar bear has a longer body than that of the brown bear and its diet is much more carnivorous, consisting primarily of seals. The polar bear also spends a great deal of its life in the water, despite being a terrestrial mammal.
