Bikram yoga is the formal name for hot yoga, according to Mayo Clinic. Hot yoga is performed in a studio that is heated to 105 degrees Fahrenheit with a humidity of 40 percent. A session of Bikram yoga lasts for 90 minutes and consists of a series of 26 postures.
Bikramyoga.com explains that the intense heat flushes waste products from the body in the form of sweat. Bikram yoga also increases the supply of oxygen in the body. Practicing Bikram yoga in the heat has the potential to cause heat-related illness, so Mayo Clinic recommends that anyone with health concerns check with his physician before attempting this type of yoga.
