When will the Black Farmers settlement be paid?

Class members who successfully had filled claims on the settlement that was reached between certain African American farmers and the U.S. Department of Agriculture began receiving payments in September 2013, according to BlackFarmerCase.com. The U.S. Congress approved $1.25 billion to settle the lawsuit.

The settlement was in favor of African American farmers who claimed they were wrongfully denied access to loans and other benefits by the U.S. Department of Agriculture based on their race, explains BlackFarmerCase.com. The class members were comprised of African American farmers who were denied a loan or benefits program or were given a loan with unfair terms by the USDA between 1981 and 1996.
