Black olives are low in calories and are a good source of healthy fats. They also contain doses of calcium, iron, copper, and vitamin A and E. However, they are high in sodium.
A 1-cup serving of black olives contains 142 calories, 1 gram protein, 13 grams fat, 4 grams fiber and 8 grams carbohydrates. Black olives are high in monosaturated fats, which help limit the risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke. A cup of black olives contains 1,188 milligrams sodium, which is half the daily serving recommended by the Institute of Medicine. Drain and rinse olives in water to remove some of the brine and reduce the salt content.
