Are black racer snakes venomous?

Black racer snakes are not venomous. They are very fast constrictors growing up to 70 inches in length that pose little danger to humans.
Black racers prefer living in wooded areas, and despite being classified as a constrictor, they do not coil around and squeeze their prey. The snakes defend themselves by quickly vibrating their tails to produce a sound similar to that of a rattlesnake.
Black racers are excellent swimmers and can move at very high speeds, hence their name. They avoid confrontation with predators when possible but will not hesitate to stalk and violently kill their prey. They live on a diet of moles, smaller snakes, birds and frogs.
