What is block paving sand used for?

Block paving sand is used to fill joints in block paving to strengthen individual blocks by locking them together. It also keeps weeds from growing on driveways, sidewalks and patios.

Block paving sand is an extremely fine sand that flows easily into the joints and gaps in block paving and paving slabs when dry. The sand prevents water from penetrating the paved area, which in time may lead to loose blocks and sinking. Block paving sand keeps the structure of the paving rigid and stops it from moving. The sand also prevents any vegetation from growing in between the slabs.
