What is a blood thinner diet?

While there is no particular blood thinner diet, Mayo Clinic recommends that patients on blood thinners avoid foods that are high in vitamin K, which can inhibit the effectiveness of blood thinners. Cranberry juice and alcohol should also be avoided.

Common foods that are rich in vitamin K include kale, spinach, Brussels sprouts, parsley, collard greens, mustard greens, chard, and green tea. Safe levels of vitamin K consumption are 120 mcg per day for adult men and 90 mcg per day for adult women. Cranberry juice and alcohol both amplify the effects of blood thinners, which can amplify bleeding risk.
