What is a blue fescue?

Blue fescue is a semi-evergreen ornamental grass with long, slender leaves that have a blue cast. The plant grows in mounds and produces light green flowers with purple edges on tall stalks in the spring and fall.
Blue fescue is native to Europe, and it grows well in most climates of the United States. It's low-maintenance, pest-free and tolerates salt spray in the winter. The plant works well as ground cover, as a border in gardens or along walkways. Because of a shallow root system, blue fescue grows well in containers. The flowers need to be pruned after blooming to avoid seed formation and self-propagation.
