According to Mayo Clinic, any body temperature above 103 degrees Fahrenheit can be dangerous, and according to the National Institutes of Health, a dangerously low body temperature, otherwise known as hypothermia, occurs when the body temperature falls to 95 degrees Fahrenheit or below. The normal body temperature of a healthy human is approximately 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius), although the range of normal can differ by up to 1 degree above or below. Where the temperature is taken can also affect the reading.
A high body temperature outside of the normal range can be dangerous and is considered a fever. Fevers are often caused by infections, certain medications, severe traumas and some medical conditions.
Fevers are much more common than hypothermia, which is a condition caused by being exposed to excessive cold, shock or drug use.
