What borders Italy?

Italy is bordered by the countries of Austria, France, the Holy See, San Marino, Slovenia and Switzerland. Additionally, it has coastline on the Mediterranean, Tyrrhenian, Ionian and Adriatic Seas.
The countries of San Marino and the Holy See, also known as Vatican City, are enclaves located entirely within the larger landmass of Italy, for each of these countries is very small. As the borders of Italy have fluctuated over the years and its neighbors have changed names due to the vicissitudes of politics, the number of countries bordering Italy have changed. For example, Italy used to share borders with Yugoslavia, but Slovenia declared its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
