Do boys have periods?

Boys do not have physical periods in the way women do, reports Cosmopolitan magazine. Instead, men experience irritable male syndrome, or IMS, which is the male equivalent of PMS, according to Dr. Yael Varnado. IMS is a drop in male testosterone that can lead to moodiness.

Stress and diet changes are factors that contribute to male testosterone drops and feelings of moodiness. Some men also report feelings of sympathetic PMS, which correlates to a significant other's PMS. Boys typically begin puberty some time between the ages of 9 and 14, reports KidsHealth. While girls develop breasts and begin having periods during puberty, boys experience muscle growth, voice changes and the development of body hair.
