Most sixth grade students study Earth science. The curriculum covers the solar system, meteorology, phases of the sun and moon and ocean currents. Students analyze data and perform experiments to better their understanding of Earth science.
During the sixth grade year, students investigate how the position of the Earth, sun and moon were used to develop calendars and clocks, how the temperature of the ocean affects the weather on nearby land masses and predict the types of tides that occur when the Earth and moon occupy various positions. By the end of the sixth grade year, students are able to use data to draw conclusions about the major components of the Earth.
