What is the BRAT diet for diarrhea?

By Forinfos - 17/06/2025 - 0 comments

The BRAT diet consists of bananas, rice, applesauce and toast, explains Medicine Net. This is known as a bland diet because all of the foods are easy to digest.

Similar diets are BRATY, which includes yogurt, and BRATT, which adds tea to the list. Mashed potatoes and crackers are also bland foods that can be eaten during bouts of diarrhea, notes Everyday Health. It's also important to stay hydrated with sports drinks or clear liquids such as water or broth. The BRAT diet is recommended for short-term use only. After transitioning off the BRAT diet, it is best to temporarily avoid foods with a lot of fiber, sugary drinks, caffeine and dairy that may aggravate diarrhea.
