A Brazilian hair straightening treatment uses amino acids to bond protein to outer layers of the hair, resulting in smooth, frizz-free hair. Brazilian hair straightening treatments are also known as Brazilian blowouts.

A Brazilian blowout is a professional treatment. First, a stylist shampoos the hair and leaves it slightly damp. The stylist applies the chemical solution, and then blow-dries and flat-irons the hair. The heat from the flat iron bonds the chemicals to the hair. Finally, the stylist shampoos conditions the hair again to rinse out the treatment.

After treatment, hair looks healthy, shiny and smooth. Curly hair becomes straight or slightly wavy. The effects last about three months.
