What do buffalo eat?

The buffalo, also known as the American bison, eats a diet of grass, sedges and herbs that grow in prairie habitats. They occasionally eat berries, twigs and lichen as well.
The buffalo is an herbivore and eats only plants. It gets its food by grazing or eating plants directly from the ground. It also regurgitates its food after swallowing it the first time, and chews the cud like cattle. This allows it to digest the plant fibers more thoroughly before the final digestion process. During the winter, when there is snow on the prairie, the buffalo uses its head to dig in the snow in order to find food.
