Where do bulls live?

Bulls and other cattle live around the world on farms, grasslands and pastures; some wild cattle also live in the woods. On farms, most bulls are castrated and slaughtered for their meat before they turn 3 years old. These young males are raised in barns or in individual stalls.

Bulls that are raised to adulthood in captivity are most often used as breeding stock. These adult males may be kept in bull pens, sturdy fenced areas that prevent the bull from injuring other animals or people. This also prevents them from impregnating other cattle unless intended by the farmer. Some bulls are kept with female cattle, living free range in a herd. Cattle as a species are native to Eurasia.
