What is chauffeur training?

Chauffeur training refers to the short on-the-job training that many taxi and limousine companies require their new chauffeur to go through. Some municipalities actually require this chauffeur training by law in addition to the driver's license, chauffer's license and drug screening.

The duration and coverage of chauffeur training varies with location and limousine company. It may last up to two weeks and cover lessons on driver safety, local traffic laws, proper etiquette and client services. The chauffeur learns additional skills in operating the taximeter and communications devices. He also gets training in the proper techniques of ensuring safety during emergency situations, such as accidents, flat tire or inclement weather.
