Tricare is a program that offers health care to active duty, reserve or retired military personnel. This coverage is also extended to their families and survivors, even to former spouses in certain situations.
Tricare's benefits vary depending on the applicant's category. Active duty service members pay no premiums or deductibles and can enroll in Tricare Prime. Retired service members pay an annual premium and possible deductible. Retired or reserve personnel enroll in TRICARE Standard and Extra plans. Tricare also offers dental plans. Family members of military personnel may register for Tricare online by using the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System.
