Is it best to buy young or adult guinea fowl for insect control?

Baby guinea fowl, or keets, are better for starting a free-ranging flock for insect control as they regard the property on which they are raised as their home territory. Adult guinea fowl may try to return to a previous territory.
Keets need shelter and warmth during their first two weeks of life. A stout cardboard box with an absorbent lining and a light bulb and reflector to supply warmth makes a good brooder. At three weeks, they can move to larger pens offering at least 1 square foot of space per bird. They are ready to go outside when they get their first set of true feathers at about one month of age.
