How do you calculate cricket averages?

In the game of cricket, batting average is calculated by dividing the total number of runs scored by the number of times out. Player bowling average is determined by dividing the number of runs conceded by the number of wickets taken.

A batsman with 800 runs scored versus 20 outs has a batting average of 40 (800 / 20). For a batsman, an average below 10 is considered very poor, while averages above 50 are considered exceptionally good.

A bowler conceding 60 runs while taking two wickets has a bowling average of 30 (60 / 2). Bowling averages above 40 are prevalent among players chosen only for batting ability; averages under 20 are exceptionally good.
