What do you call a baby puffin?

Like other birds, baby puffins can correctly be referred to as chicks. However, those who would like to be more specific may use the term 'puffling' to refer to puffin hatchlings.

Puffins only lay a single egg at a time, meaning that puffin parents will have only one puffling to rear if the egg remains viable and hatches successfully. Both the male and female puffin parents take responsibility for most aspects of puffling-rearing, from nest building to brooding and feeding. Puffin parents form long-term pair bonds, meaning the same pair of puffin parents can raise multiple pufflings together in their lifetimes.
