What is Cameroon famous for?

Cameroon is famous for the production of coffee beans, cocoa, cotton, oilseeds and bananas. In 2014, Cameroon was the first African country to make it to the quarterfinals of the soccer World Cup.

The country was named Cameroon, meaning "river of prawn" in Portuguese, by 15th-century explorers and was a western colony until 1960. The green, red and yellow in the national flag represent vegetation, independence and sunshine. Cameroon has seven national parks, the most famous of which is Waza National Park, home to the richest variety of flora and fauna in Africa. Despite the country's abundant natural resources, one-third of the Cameroonian population lives below the poverty line.
