The Campbell Soup Company’s pepper pot soup was a canned soup produced by the company in Camden, N.J. Although the flavor had been popular since 1905, Campbell’s discontinued the flavor in 2010. It is still available for purchase in Canada.
Pepper pot soup was first introduced to the Philadelphia, Pa., area by African and Caribbean slaves during the time of the Revolutionary War. Made from tripe, vegetables, beef, spices and herbs, pepper pot soup was made commercially available by the Campbell Soup Company for more than 100 years. Today, many recipes for pepper pot soup omit tripe and use poultry and pork in lieu of beef.
