Can you add an ice maker to an upright freezer?

Ice makers can be added to some upright freezer models, specifically those that are manufactured with a water fill tube, appropriate rear wiring and side-wall mounting holes. Freezers without these additions cannot accommodate ice makers.
Several upright freezer models marketed by Frigidaire, Kenmore and Electrolux are sold with the options necessary to add ice makers. Older-model freezers typically do not have the ice-maker option, and most models that accommodate add-on ice-maker kits date from 2001 or later. An add-on ice-maker kit includes the maker, an ice bin and the necessary installation hardware. The Thermador brand offers a line of upright freezers that include in-door ice and water dispensers.
