Can an American Express card be activated online?

American Express does allow their cardholders the opportunity to activate their cards online through a secured connection. This can be accessed through their website, americanexpress.com.

You will be shown a card with blank spaces, allowing you to enter information from your new card, such as the account number, expiration date and four-digit card number. Once the information entered is verified, you will be taken to a screen where you will be able to customize the features on your account. The last step of activation would be on the confirmation page, where you would confirm all information entered is valid. After processing all information entered, the card is available for immediate use.
