Can you connect a VGA monitor to a DVD player?

A VGA monitor can be connected to and used with a DVD player with an extra component called a converter. There may be a variety of connections that need to be taken into account.

An older DVD player is likely to have one of three different video outputs,

1. A component jack, which is three jacks grouped together
2. An S-video jack, which is a single round jack with five rectangular connectors
3. A single video jack

The audio jacks are separate and likely to be found along the side of the DVD player. Newer DVD players have a DVI or HDMI jack, but they are likely to include at least one of the older types as well.

The S-video or component video converter is connected to both the DVD player and the VGA monitor. It converts the output of the DVD player into a form that the VGA player can read. Audio jacks need to be connected separately.
