Orange peel is edible and can be found in many recipes, such as marmalade jam. The orange peel is not as sweet as the actual orange pulp. Organic orange peel is safer for consumption than treated orange peel, since organic peel has not been sprayed with chemicals.
Orange peel has a lot of nutrients. The peel has more fiber than the pulp inside the peel. The orange peel contains vitamins A, C, B-6 and B-5. The peel contains riboflavin, folate, niacin and thiamin. The pith, the white part between the skin and the fruit, is bitter but has as much vitamin C as the actual fruit. Orange peel contains flavonoids that have anti-hypertensive and anti-inflammatory effects.
