Can EMT classes be taken online?

Classes for EMT certification, no matter the level, cannot be completed online, but students taking on-site training can supplement it with web-based coursework. There are three different levels of EMT certification: EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic. Each of these three levels have different variations of classroom instruction and practical experience.

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, or NREM, can provide information about certification standards that are fairly common to most locations. However, prospective EMTs must pass both a written and a practical examination in order to receive full licensure. Most programs require 130 hours of experience and can be completed in 2 to 4 months.
