According to WebMD, people can get epidurals for back pain; however, this method of treatment is more successful for some people than others. Numbing medicine and a steroid make up epidural injections.
Spinal stenosis and radiculopathy are among the back pain conditions for which epidurals are used, according to WebMD. Spinal stenosis occurs with a narrowing spine that compresses nerves, which in turn causes back pain. Radiculopathy is nerve inflammation or damage that results in sharp, shooting pain. Patients usually get epidurals in doctors’ offices and in hospitals. Epidural side effects may include soreness at the injection site, nausea and headaches.
