Hibiscus flower, or gumamela as it is called in the Philippines, is used in many moisturizers due to its antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatory properties. The hibiscus flower is used to support skin health, according to Gaia Herbs.
WebMD notes that the hibiscus flower is used to treat constipation, loss of appetite, colds, heart and nerve disease, stomach irritation and circulation disorders.
Hibiscus is also used as a flavoring in many foods and beverages, especially teas. Hibiscus tea contains vitamin C and minerals and is a natural diuretic. Other parts of the plant are used to make soups, spices, sauces and jams.
