Car owners may also check their cars' recall history through Volkswagen's official website.

Safercar.gov is another website where car owners can check about Volkswagen recalls. Similar to the Volkswagen website, the site requires the complete vehicle identification number of the vehicle to determine if that particular car is a part of a safety recall order within the past 15 years. A recall lookup by VIN also allows the current owners to find out if the recalled vehicle still requires a repair.
