In order to set up port forwarding on a router, call the help line for the router's manufacturer or review the instructions available on the Web, such as at Port Forward, and look up the specific router. Before beginning, make sure to know what ports that are to be opened up in the router and remember that ports can only be opened to one device and that device needs to have a static Internet protocol (IP) address.
