Linde star sapphires are sometimes called Lindy sapphires. They are synthetic gemstones with a star pattern that mimics the pattern on high-quality natural sapphires. While the star on regular sapphires is a naturally occurring feature of the gem, the star on Linde sapphires is painted on during the gem manufacturing process. Lindy sapphires are usually stamped with a letter L on the back of the gem, and they have other variations that allow an experienced jeweler to tell them apart from natural stones.
