Can mice climb walls and ceilings?

According to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, house mice are capable of climbing any vertical surface provided it is rough enough. Between 5 1/2 and 7 1/2 inches in length, house mice are agile animals with excellent balance and the ability to fit through openings one-quarter of an inch in diameter.
Reducing available shelter and removing accessible food are ways to discourage house mice from living in human dwellings, as large populations cannot be maintained when these factors are limited. House mice are drawn to areas that provide warmth and shelter, such as running appliances, debris and woodpiles. Bird feeders and pet food also attract house mice.
