Can you do MIG welding on stainless steel?

Metal inert gas welding, also known as MIG welding, can be done on stainless steel. However, the welding machine must first be equipped with a stainless steel MIG wire to match materials. Moreover, the machine has to be calibrated to deal with stainless steel.
The material properties of stainless steel are such that it heats more quickly than carbon steel and loses heat more slowly. Therefore, the welding machine has to be reduced to the minimum setting that still allows for fusion of the pieces being welded. In addition, the machine needs to be run on a direct current with a positive polarity.
