How can mildew be removed from a shower curtain?

Mildew can only be removed from a shower curtain by using a cleaning compound that kills the mold and mildew spores, such as hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, borax, vinegar and chlorine bleach. Soap scum should be fully removed from the curtain as it causes mildew to grow.
Some of the suggested cleansers, such as hydrogen peroxide and bleach, are less ecofriendly than the others, so they should only be used as a last resort. All the cleansers should be diluted with water before being applied to the curtain. The shower curtain can either be cleaned by hand — outside or in the bathtub are easiest — or in the washing machine. When using the washing machine, wash on the gentle cycle and remove the curtain before the spin cycle.
