To naturally reduce the amount of iron serum in the blood, it helps to eat more foods that inhibit the absorption of iron in the body and less of those that provide it or enhance it, according to SFGate. The combination of these foods affect how much iron is absorbed.
Certain types of iron present in meat, fish and poultry, called heme iron, is absorbed three times more efficiently by the body than other types of iron, including non-heme iron, present in fruits, grains and legumes, reports SFGate. Foods that contain high amounts of calcium, such as milk, yogurt and other dairy products, are known to be the most efficient iron-absorption inhibitors.
