Where can one find ratings for Medicare nursing homes?

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services provides a search tool for comparing Medicare nursing homes on Medicare.gov. To use it, enter a ZIP code into the "Location" field, and click "Search." The site returns a list of Medicare nursing homes in the area.

The Nursing Home Compare tool shows the names, addresses and phone numbers of local nursing homes along with an overall rating for each one. It also assigns individual ratings for staffing, health-inspection results and quality measures, which are based on residents' assessments of how well the nursing home meets their needs. Either browse through all of the listings, or select "Add to Compare" to do a side-by-side comparison of up to three nursing homes at a time.
