Can pickleball be played outdoors?

Pickleball can be played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a low net. It is a fun, competitive game played with a paddle and a plastic ball. It is suitable for either singles or doubles play.

Outdoor courts are best when aligned along a north-south orientation in order to minimize the effects of the sun. Players can create a do-it-yourself outdoor court by marking lines with chalk, crayons or tape. It is also prudent to erect a barrier for outdoor games, as this helps contain the balls within the playing space. Plastic construction fencing or garden fencing materials from home improvement stores work well for this purpose.
