Water heaters can be purchased at Lowe's, Home Depot, recreational vehicle accessory shops, small hardware stores and local home appliance shops. Shops that specialize in heating and plumbing products also sell hot water heaters and are more likely to carry specially designed models.

Hot water heaters come in a wide variety of sizes. Ten-gallon hot water heaters are commonly purchased at shops specializing in recreational vehicles and campers. On-demand or tankless hot water heaters are sold at many home improvement stores but are not as readily available as the traditional tank style heaters found almost any place that sells construction materials.
