Can you put pit bulls on steroids?

According to VCA Animal Hospitals, pit bulls and other dogs may be safely put on steroids with little to no side effects. They're most commonly prescribed to suppress mild inflammatory conditions and control inflammation associated with allergic responses.

Most prescribed corticosteroids are synthetic, including dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, prednisolone, prednisone and triamcinolone. Since such forms last longer and are more potent than naturally-occurring steroids, the health and behavior of dogs must be monitored closely. Owners of pit bulls in the drug trade, and those illegally fighting the dogs, are known to inject their pets with steroids to build their muscles and fuel their aggression.
