Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" is available at the BITS English Language Learning website. The title is also available at Project Gutenberg Canada for Canadian citizens. "The Old Man and the Sea" is under copyright until 2047 in the United States.
"The Old Man and the Sea" won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1954. Published in 1952, it was one of the last major works that Hemingway completed before his death. Hemingway's stark, stoic prose strongly influenced contemporary American literature. The book chronicles the two-day-long battle between the protagonist Santiago and an enormous marlin that bites his line.
