Some setback regulations in Fairfax County, Virginia, depend on which zoning district a property is located in. The county's website lists setbacks that are regulated countywide.
Fairfax County's setback regulations include property fencing of a maximum of 4 feet tall for front yards and 7 feet for side and rear yards. Exceptions are made for properties that are located near heavily traveled roads.
Side and rear yards can have an accessory structure of no more than 7 feet in height, or a shed that does not exceed 8 1/2 feet in height, anywhere within the yard. Buildings which are taller than the maximum must have a setback at least equal to the building's height.
