The S&P chart history can be viewed online, according to an interactive chart provided by Google Finance. Google Finance delivers the S&P index price ranging from as early as 1975 to the latest trading day.
The S&P 500 is a measure of the 500 largest stocks on the New York Stock Exchange. The S&P history chart shows how the index remained below 1,000 until 1997 to 1998. The index did not dip below 1,000 until 2002. Furthermore, from 2000 to 2002, the S&P's low was 776.76, which was due to the bursting of the dot-com bubble, as reported by NBC. In addition, by February 2008 the S&P fell to 1997 levels. As of March 12, 2015, the S&P closed at 2,065.95.
