Can you send an inmate money at TDJC?

While individuals cannot send money directly to an inmate of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) system, there is an option to send money that the inmate accesses during his incarceration, explains the TDCJ. The TDCJ does not accept cash or personal checks on the behalf of inmates.
People send money to inmate accounts by using money orders, cashier's check, monthly debits, Western Union and other methods, according to the TDCJ website. When a single deposit exceeds $500, the funds remain unavailable to the prisoner for 14 days. Inmates do not earn interest on the deposited funds, so there is not a benefit when providing an inmate with more money than he needs.
