Can you start dreadlocks with box braids?

Dread locks can be started with braids. The braided hair will be trimmed away as the dreads grow longer.The braids can be palm-rolled to look like locks, while the new growth is twisted into locks.

The braids do not have to be cut; keep in mind that the texture of the braid will remain. This portion of the hair will never completely lock. Braids should not be long. The braids should be 1 inch to 3 inches in length. Part the hair in square sections to help the dreads grow round and not flat. The thickness of the dreads will depend on the size of the sections; smaller sections are used for smaller dreads.
