Studies have shown that chronic stress resulting from major life events are linked to an increased risk of a stroke, according to WebMD. People who possess a stress-inducing type A personality, consume approximately two energy drinks each day, or currently or formerly smoked may double their chances of a stroke.
Stress associated with excessive sleepiness, sleep apnea or a heart rhythm disorder can increase the risk of a stroke, explains WebMD. Additional risk factors for a stroke include obesity, diabetes, artery or heart disease, and smoking. High blood pressure and high cholesterol can also increase the risk of a stroke.
